May 2003

Shortly after I received my M.A. my parents and I visited the UK.  After landing at Heathrow, we visited a family friend in North London.  While Dad visited, Mom and I walked around a bit.  I found this maintenance depot for the Underground nearby.

We stayed about 3 weeks with my Aunt and Uncle in Norfolk.  Often joined by my Auntie Linda, I went cycling in the countryside around the village of Erpingham where my relatives live.   My Aunt took a picture of me with a road sign for the village.

In the days before electricity, cable cars, or even steam locomotives, horses were often used.  This is a display of  an early  London "tram" at the London Transport Museum.

The day before we were due to head home, I was fortunate enough to catch the departure of a steam special from London's Euston station.  "Princess Elizabeth" hauled a special train to Liverpool.  An English enthusiast was kind enough to take a photo of me with the engine.

"Corky Liz," moves away to couple to her train on an adjoining platform.  There were many other enthusiasts nearby as this event is rather rare.
