Went over in September visit my Aunt and Uncle and see some sights in London.  Here we are walking along the ocean front in Cromer.

Here I am bringing up the rear of the Cromer church tower, 174 twisting narrow steps to the top!

The nearby 15" gauge Bure Valley Railway had a special guest locomotive from a gala weekend.  This engine, Hercules, is from the Rommney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Railway in Kent.  Grandad took me on a few trips on this railway and its possible that either he or the both of us rode behind this engine.

My Aunt and Uncle's dog Becky.  Very strange this one- likes to play soccer and always barks when you're getting ready to park the car!

Walking along Blankeney Point, where the North Sea tide goes out for miles.

September 19, 2008 Some of the seals, they follow the tide out to sea and the tours only run in the early morning.
September 20, 2008 We're all out for a ride on the North Norfolk Railway.  Here's a view of the Sheringham station from a overhead road crossing.
September 20, 2008 Halfway along the line- believe this is Weybourne.
September 20, 2008 Auntie Linda and I at Holt.  The railway was having a 1940s weekend and there were many people in period costume, even serving period food!

September 20, 2008 Night shot of their renovated barn.
September 21, 2008 The last few days were spent in London.  On the way down we stopped and saw my father's cousin and her husband.  What could be better then tea and cakes in the garden?  Here we all are!
September 21, 2008 My Aunt and Uncle's 5th wheel near my Uncle's factor in Dunstable.
September 22, 2008 After a night in a hotel it was off on a train to London.  Here's the first view of London after getting off the Westminster tube station.  London Eye- we'll be on that later in the day!
September 22, 2008 A quick shot of Big Ben before I took the tube to Waterloo.
September 22, 2008 Finally!  I made it to the London Hard Rock Cafe!
September 22, 2008 After a wonderful meal, we're on the London Eye!  A beautiful clear evening view of London, Big Ben in the middle.
September 24, 2008 Last views of England.  Outbound at the new Heathrow Terminal 5.  Nope, this isn't our plane but there were a bunch of 747s near the departure gate and I like them.
September 24, 2008 Flew on a 777 leaving Philadelphia, this is the ride home, a 737.  This is the second plane, the first one had some mechanical issues resulting in a long delay.  Good flight back, but thanks to traffic in the states it took a bit longer to get home.

May 2003

Shortly after I graduated from grad school, my parents and I visited the UK.  After landing at Heathrow, we visited a family friend in North London.  While Dad visited, Mom and I walked around a bit.  I found this maintenance depot for the Underground nearby.

May 24, 2003

We stayed about 3 weeks with my Aunt and Uncle in Norfolk.  Often joined by my Auntie Linda, I went cycling in the countryside around the village of Erpingham where my relatives live.   My Aunt took a picture of me with a road sign for the village.

June 5, 2003

In the days before electricity, cable cars, or even steam locomotives, horses were often used.  This is a display of  an early  London "tram" at the London Transport Museum.

June 6, 2003

The day before we were due to head home, I was fortunate enough to catch the departure of a steam special from London's Euston station.  "Princess Elizabeth" hauled a special train to Liverpool.  An English enthusiast was kind enough to take a photo of me with the engine.

June 6, 2003

"Corky Liz," moves away to couple to her train on an adjoining platform.  There were many other enthusiasts nearby as this event is rather rare.
